How To Use Facebook Chat - 5 Basic Tips For Instant Messaging On Facebook

Friday, August 6th, 2010

If you are not very experience with Facebook, then you may have not come across the ‘chat’ function. Read on to find some information about how to get started with Facebook chat, the Facebook instant messaging service.

1. Find online friends

The Facebook Chat service is available to all users of Facebook - it is free and readily available on your account so that you don’t need to install anything to activate it. Simply click on the box at the bottom right of your Facebook page.

If any of your friends are online, they will be shown with a green circle next to their names. You may notice that some users have a crescent moon next to their names - this means that they are online but Facebook has not logged any activity of theirs for over ten minutes, meaning that they are likely not to respond.

2. Get chatting

All you have to do to start a chat conversation with someone is to click on their name on the list. If you type something in the chat box, then it will be sent to this person straight away and they can then respond.

3. Adjusting the sound alerts

When your friend replies to you, you may discover that Facebook chat makes a sound whenever they message you - if you don’t want this, you can go to ‘Options’ above your list of online friends and uncheck the box that says ‘play sound for new messages’.

4. Arranging the friend list

You can arrange your friend list so that you can view as many or as few people you like. If you have many online friends, then you can click on ’show names only in online friends. This will show friends without their profiles so that more fit onto the list without you having to scroll down.

5. Going offline

In order to exit Facebook chat, click on ‘Options’ and ‘Go Offline’. Once you have left Facebook chat, you will not be able to see who is online and they will not be able to tell whether you are on Facebook or not.

Using Facebook chat is a great way to instant message your friends who are on Facebook. The different settings ensure that you can have a great instant messaging experience as you can adjust them to suit your needs.

How Do I Delete My Facebook Account? - Deleting Your Facebook Account Permanently

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Facebook is the biggest social networking website in the world with over 500 million active users. However, some aspects of its functionality are not to everyone’s liking, and so you may find yourself wondering, ‘How do I delete my Facebook account?’. If this sounds like you, then read on for information about deleting your Facebook account.

Deactivate Your Account

But before we start - were you aware that you don’t necessarily have to erase your account on Facebook forever? If you are the kind of person who may want to return to Facebook at a later date, then perhaps you should consider deactivating your account rather than deleting it completely. By deactivating your account, no one will be able to see you on Facebook, but all of your account information and settings will be retained for if you want to come back to them sometime.

Simply follow this process to deactivate your account: Click on ‘Accounts’, ‘Account Settings’ and then ‘Deactivate account’.

If you later decide to reactivate your account, then it will be as you left it. To reactivate your account, simply log back into Facebook.

Delete Your Account

If you are sure that you want to delete your Facebook account permanently, then you should be aware that there is no going back. You have to submit a request to Facebook to delete your account and once you have done this, you will not be able to access any of the information on your account. This means that you will not be able to access any of your photos or friend information once it is deleted.

If you are fine with losing this information, then you must submit a form to Facebook asking that your account be deleted. This form is found in the Facebook help centre.

Facebook will then process this request and your Facebook account will be deleted.
